Legal research databases

Legal publications are increasingly available online. The San Luis Obispo Law Library subscribes to these databases to provide library patrons with access to essential legal research tools. Electronic legal resources provide powerful research tools such as keyword searching, case cite validation and access to industry leading publications. Many resources also feature options to download or email materials.
WestLaw Access (On-site Only)
Features include access to all federal and state case law, statutes, and regulations; citation analysis through Keycite; extensive secondary sources including Rutter Group California Practice Guides; All Briefs; CA legislative history; and the All Forms multibase, which combines Westlaw’s forms databases, including national and state-specific forms. Access includes Practical Law, Jury Verdicts and Settlements, Federal and State Court Dockets, and CA Trial Court Documents. Westlaw offers the accuracy of an improved search engine, the ability to search across all content simultaneously, and the option of emailing results directly from the database.
CEB OnLaw (On-site Only)
Contains the California Continuing Education of the Bar (CEB) online library of publications such as action guides, practice materials, and forms. The database also permits a word or issue search across all available publications and forms. Our catalog has entries for the Library’s print CEB collection as well as direct links to the CEB OnLaw database.
NOLO Guides (Remote Access Available)
NOLO, formerly known as NOLO Press, is a publisher in Berkeley, California, that makes the law accessible to everyone by offering an extensive library of free, legal articles and a catalog of DIY products and legal services.
Bell's Compendium (Remote Access Available)
Since 1969, Bell’s Compendium has been the authoritative choice for fast and accurate research on the law of searches, seizures & bugging. Featuring indexed cases in summary format, so you can find what you need when you need it.
